Many would like to know English and Swahili languages here in Kenya. local languages also remains as the beneficial way of communication even though others thought that, using local languages is passed by the time. But there is nothing good like to know your local language which is your mother tongue.
Local languages are highly used in rural areas, while the National languages are mostly used in towns. but even though, there are some communities who are willingly looking forward to learn more local languages and especially when it comes to Business. Like in central Kenya, this is the dominants of Kikuyu community,who speak Kikuyu Language. its the highest community in Kenya.
Ethnic groups are: Kikuyu 22%, Luhya 14%, Luo 13%, Kalenjin 12%, Kamba 11%, Kisii 6%, Meru 6%, other African 15%, non-African (Asian, European, and Arab) 1%. Most Kenyans are bilingual in English and Swahili, also a large percentage speak the mother tongue of their ethnic tribe.
The Kikuyu are the largest ethnic group in Kenya. They speak the Bantu Kikuyu language as a mother tongue. The term Kikuyu is the Swahili form of the native pronunciation Gĩkũyũ.
I am a Kikuyu from Central Kenya. I have been a Kikuyu article writer for a period of 3years, in a Catholic Diocese of Murang'a monthly published Magazine known as "Mwihoko".Mwihoko is a kikuyu name meaning (Hope).
I am therefore would like to train you Kikuyu Language in both writing, Reading and speaking. Nb: When it comes to Kikuyu Language, there are some letters in alphabetical order that are no where used,in writing,or whether speaking. The letters are: F,L,P,Q,S,V,X and Z.
Gikuyu community are Mythically, believed to have came from two original parents who were created by God, namely Gĩkũyũ and Mũmbi. They constitute the single largest ethnic group in Kenya, and are concentrated in the vicinity of Mount Kenya.
The Agikuyu call their God "Ngai".Mwene Nyaga"and they believed that He was staying at Mount Kenya. They lived in small huts called "Thingira"
This traditional houses of Agikuyu are still secured,and especially they are found in Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga located in Murang'a, where its believed were the homes of Gikuyu and Mumbi parents to Agikuyu. Its about 25Km away from Murang'a town,and about 120Km from Nairobi the Capital City of Kenya.

Here are the Agikuyu granary known as "ikumbi"-singura,and "Makumbi" in plurals.Agikuyu used to store their harvest in this structures. its built of "Marigi"which are the small sticks weaved together. it has a grass roofing.
